I realize that it is an ever changing world, especially professionally. But it actually does a disservice to you and your talents, and others and theirs when you suddenly (as in overnight) try to put yourself out there as an expert on another profession. Don't Just "Take the Money & Run" from a Client

It seems like it would be common sense that a client you worked so hard to cultivate, you wouldn't just "take the money" and run until the next time. Yet, business people seem to do it all too frequently. So the next time you approach them wanting to do business, they're looking at you like you're covered in cobwebs :-).
Stay in touch with your clients current, past and hopefully future. It's good business and in general it makes sense.

Welcome to my new blog! The Importance of the R.S.V.P

As promised, here's my new blog.

I'm going to "stir the pot" a little by starting with one of my PR pet peeves that I actually developed long before I was in PR. When I say, long before I was in PR, I mean the age of 5 or 6 yrs. old. I'd get an invitation to a classmate's or close friend's birthday party and my mother would ask if I wanted to go and then she'd promptly rsvp that I'd be in attendance.
This was also long before we all became "so busy" that we had to "check our schedule" before we'd commit to a party; or blow off a party we didn't want to attend.
But the one thing that I don't think to this day is that rsvp does not mean - don't respond if you're not attending. It means please respond either way.
I learned how strange people are about this subject as I started attending more expensive professional and social functions where people go to a great deal of expense for food, beverage, etc. to make a nice occasion; and they need a head count only to have the "twelfth hour" arrive and not have any idea how many people are coming.
Especially in these economic times, sentiment and etiquette aside, whether it's a professional invitation or a social one, let the host/hostess know your intentions. Be kind; be considerate; be present or NOT:-)!
